If you’re a gamer, you probably have a favorite platform to play on: Xbox, PlayStation or Switch – or maybe it’s your computer.

A new report finds that PC games are actually outselling console games. And though there’s been some dispute about actual numbers, it’s clear that recent titles on PC have outsize success.

Tech expert Omar Gallaga wrote about the rise of PC gaming this week for CNET and joined the Standard with what he’s found.

Highlights from this segment:

– According to the State of Video Gaming in 2025 report from research company Epyllion, 53% of non-mobile content spend – how much gaming content has been sold that’s not on the mobile side of things – has gone to the PC side.

– “Baldur’s Gate 3,” “Diablo IV,” “Path of Exile 2” and “Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024” are among the titles that have been especially successful on PC.

– The cost difference between game consoles and PCs has decreased as consoles have gotten more expensive. “I think you can get a good mid-range PC in the $700-$800 range. And you know, you can upgrade them pretty cheaply,” Gallaga said.

– Amid the PC gaming trend, Nintendo has announced its Switch 2 console, which could shift many gamers back to consoles. It will have a bigger screen and be backwards compatible with most Switch games.
