Typewriter Rodeo: In Appreciation of Naps

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem.

The school year has wrapped up just as the political frenzy of presidential politics and state legislature drama — not to mention the actual weather — is heating up. Whether it’s bored kids demanding more attention or the news cycle draining your optimism, it can be exhausting. Maybe it’s time for a nap?

In Appreciation of Naps

Y’all.
I am tied.
And maybe you are too
Feeling it all —

The world fees busier
The lines longer
The crowds crowdier
And all the
too-muchnes
being just
too much

So I’m taking a break
Checking out for a few
Grabbing some respite from the
constant onslaught of everything
that thinks it needs me

I’m powering down
for a power nap
and I’ll see you
once my tank is no longer
on empty
