Typewriter Rodeo: Lessons from Tetris

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Lessons from Tetris

long line, small square

l shaped piece, 3-1 beast

each has its one place

each can occupy any space

our job is to shift, change

rearrange

empty our minds, while clearing lines

i think playing tetris as a child

made me the evil genius i am today

because i know

no matter how things stack against me

one strategic move

can wipe the whole board away

and there’s no mistake

that with time and careful lines

can’t be erased
