Typewriter Rodeo: Mani Pedi

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Sometimes, you just need a little color in your life. And maybe some pampering to go with it. A manicure – or, if  you’re feeling really decadent – a mani/pedi, is just the thing to give you a little extra sparkle.

Mani Pedi

Hast though ever seen

Fingernails

as sleek and smooth as mine own?

Cuticles honed

Nailbeds buffed

Not a scraggly hangnail in sight

And oh, this fine new color

A but dusty on the spectrum of blues and purples

A wintertime thistle

Waving in a garden of freshly unfurled crocuses

Look, friends!

Gaze down upon mine feets

Never has a biped traversed the worldly plain

With toesies so daintily appointed

 Each tiny nail, filed gently

Hiding all the stubs and door slams

Stumbles and accidental scuffs

Restored to their newborn wonder

Delicate and new

Tiny little moons smiling at the journey

And oh, to the glorious dance of freshly painted toes

Wiggling as they dry

Tapping to sweet beats

And always, always, bringing me

Just a wee bit more laughter

To my otherwise unpolished day
