End-of-year campaign finance reports are in, notes Texas Tribune political reporter James Barragán.

Democratic hopeful Beto O’Rourke raised $7.2 million in the first 46 days of his campaign for Texas governor, Barragán tells Texas Standard – an impressive number for a Texas Democrat, but “not quite close” to incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott’s $18.9 -million haul during the last half of 2021. Abbott’s campaign has an overall total of some $65 million.

More surprising are fundraising numbers in the Republican attorney general primary race. Barragán says former Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman brought in $3.7 million, giving her the most of all four candidates.

“That’s including incumbent Attorney General Ken Paxton, who brought in $2.8 million,” Barragán said.
