Typewriter Rodeo: Still Wearing Pajama Pants

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem.

The pandemic impacted many parts of many of our lives. For some, that included what we wear. This Typewriter Rodeo poem celebrates one change that the poet is embracing as permanent.

Still Wearing Pajama Pants

I am giving
2023 all the respect that it has been
giving me

I’m rolling on through
with a lot less FOMO
and a bit less YOLO
and just well
fewer hashtags overall

Neither influencing
nor being influenced

But definitely getting by
And sometimes, maybe, even thriving

But
and I mean this from the depths of my soul
I will being it all all all
in my flannel pajama pants

Because 2023
you have been a lot

And so I’m retiring all the
dry clean only hard pants
of my pre-pandemic life

And giving myself the best self-care
I can muster

All flannel
all the time.
