Typewriter Rodeo: The Reality Behind My Social Media Posts

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Lots of social media posts require some reading between the lines. Or perhaps it’s just that character limits prevent us from speaking our truth completely.

The Reality Behind My Social Media Posts

Happy Friday, loves!

Check out my sweet new hairdo!

(Note: This hairdo courtesy of the cup of yogurt

poured on my hair by a screaming two year old

who was cosmically offended

because I put the yogurt into the blue cup

and she was pretty sure she had made it clear

that she is a green cup only sort of yogurt-eater)

Best Vacation Ever1 The ocean waves are so magical!

(Note: but not magical enough to diffuse the

ear piercing shriek of the unsuspecting recipient

of a jellyfish sting to the belly button

nor the endless complaints of why is there sand

in all of my parts and why won’t he stay

on his side of the bunk bed room)

Hashtag Blessed!

(Note: This is true. But also I am wearing a ponytail

because someone gave me a haircut while I

was passed out n the floor during carton-

thirty and I am pretty sure there is avocado

in my ear and a lego in my sock and

I haven’t gotten a decent night’s sleep

in ever but all is perfect and I’m not

crying I’m just inspired out of my

eyeballs)
