Darice McVay, who runs the Red Rock Ranch Tours, says her family has been in Van Horn since 1927. Her tours are focused on the ecology and geology of the McVay Ranch.

“This is the crossroads of the Texas Mountain Trails, we’re at the hub of four national state parks,” she says. “It’s more than just a stop and get gas, and go to the bathroom…There are a lot of things you can do here. We have an absolutely wonderful museum and one of the first permanent buildings built in Van Horn.”

One of the first permanent buildings built in Van Horn is now a museum that lets you get up close and personal.

“It is a very, very unique museum in that everything is not behind cases and you can walk up and see things right up close,” she says. “And geologically we’re one of the most unique areas in the United States.”
