Typewriter Rodeo: Is it Friday yet? (Redux)

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

This Typewriter Rodeo poem gives three (more) perspectives on one nearly universal question — is it Friday yet? The first part of this poem aired Dec. 22, 2023.

Is it Friday yet?

The client
Is texting again
Did you file the brief?
Did we win?

I hear for other jobs
Fridays bring a grin
But for lawyers
The week never ends.

60 students
60 essays to grade
60 minds to teach
and it’s barely
8am
The weekend won’t come fast enough
but Monday
always sneaks up
like
a monster
with claws

IS IT FRIDAY YET?
Each day I drive to work, I wonder —
would anyone care
if I kept driving, got on the highway
flew right down the coast and never came back?

Each day it takes
everything in me
to myself out
of it
and turn into the lot.
