A geothermal power plant in Iceland. The UT project would utilize the drilling technology and expertise already available in Texas to drill deep, geothermal wells that use underground heat to generate power rather than oil or gas.
Wind and solar power are the fastest-growing sources of electricity generation. Geothermal power also provides clean, climate-friendly energy. But its growth has lagged. Now, an initiative from the University of Texas at Austin could change that, and the school is looking for help in some unlikely places.
