The start of 2026 means the end of Texas Standard’s year-long 10th birthday celebration… Or at least it does, technically.

We’re taking a little liberty with the calendar and revealing one last top 10 list.

Looking back on our favorite content from the past 10 years in different categories has been one way we’ve been celebrating our birthday. We’ve done one list for every month of the year – from film to music to our favorite segments from commentator W.F. Strong.

Since many of us ate too much for the holidays, this final installment is all about food.

10 years of Texas Standard is just too much to look through to get an accurate taste of all the food coverage we’ve done. We’re sure we’ve left off some delectable selections.

So, as they say, take this list with a grain of salt. But as nominated by the Texas Standard staff, here is our Top 10 list of food-related stories and interviews from the past decade.

10. No surprise: Thanksgiving-flavored candy corn is just as disgusting as it sounds

This interview by Wells Dunbar from 2021 was borne from a viral tweet thread by Central Texas dietician Heather Martin, who shared her thoughts with David Brown on a Brach’s bag of specialty candy corn.

9. How an idea for a ‘travel taco’ turned into an opportunity for father-daughter bonding

Producer Kristen Cabrera is overrepresented on this list. What can I say? We each have our favorite beats as they say – and Kristen knows how to dish out the food content.

This interview from 2022 also happened to begin from a viral tweet. It was by Kaitlin Ruiz who wrote about the so-called “travel taco” idea her dad, Roberto, had.

8. Fans of convenience store chain Allsup’s hope their beloved burrito survives after company sale

This story from way back in 2019 from Michael Marks explores the cultural touchstone that is the West Texas convenience store chain Allsup’s. An Iowa-based company bought it up – and yes, the burritos and the chimis are still available, as is the taco sauce.

7. This Austin cake decorator’s creations are hyper-realistic. Things can get a little weird.

Wells Dunbar himself created a tasty story when he put together this profile in 2022.

6. Juneteenth is now a federal holiday. You can celebrate with recipes from Black food bloggers.

This is an interview comes from 2021. Dallas-based food blogger Meiko Temple made it a particularly special interview.

5. The ArnieTex cookbook is out and making us hungry

YouTube star Arnie Segovia has been on Texas Standard a couple of times – but it’s his latest appearance from 2025 that we’ve included here. It’s an interview produced by Kristen Cabrera – and it is as fun as he is.

4. From Egypt to Texas: Kareem El-Ghayesh masters barbecue fusion

Former Texas Standard intern McKenzie Nabi helped put together this interview with the Netflix Barbecue Showdown star and the pitmaster behind KG BBQ in Austin.

3. Meet the kid manning his family’s food truck

This delightful story is by another former Texas Standard intern. Jackie Ibarra produced it in 2023.

2. Her New Year’s cooking is steeped in generations of tradition

Our director Leah Scarpelli produced this beautiful portrait. It started with a chance meeting at the grocery store…

1. At Luck Reunion, Three Sisters-themed feast is stewed in Indigenous traditions

Kristen Cabrera visited Willie Nelson’s ranch in 2023 for a dinner that was part of a fundraiser.
